Erasmus+ Staff Mobility Guide

Erasmus+ can support education staff who want to develop professionally abroad through training, job shadowing, observation, teaching and other eligible mobility activities. Go2Grow helps you discover opportunities; your sending institution determines whether a specific activity can be funded under its Erasmus+ project.

How Erasmus+ staff mobility works

1. Find an opportunity. Identify a Staff Week, course, job-shadowing placement or other relevant professional development activity.
2. Check with your sending institution. Contact your Erasmus+ or international office to confirm eligibility, available funding and internal selection procedures.
3. Agree the mobility. For higher education staff mobility, the staff member, sending institution and receiving organisation normally agree a Mobility Agreement setting out learning objectives, rights and responsibilities.
4. Receive institutional funding. Erasmus+ grants contribute to eligible travel and subsistence costs. Exact support depends on the mobility type, destination, distance, duration, National Agency rules and your institution’s funding arrangements.
5. Complete and recognise the mobility. Follow your institution’s documentation and recognition requirements after the activity.

Who can participate?

Training opportunities are available to teaching and non-teaching staff across education sectors, subject to the relevant Erasmus+ action and the participation of their organisation. Higher education staff may undertake training relevant to their professional development at a partner higher education institution, enterprise or other relevant workplace.

Higher education staff training

For mobility between EU Member States and countries associated with the Programme, higher education staff training mobility generally lasts from 2 to 60 days of physical mobility, excluding travel time. Eligible training can include training events, job shadowing and observation periods. The current Programme Guide excludes conferences as a staff training activity for this action.

Funding: what can Erasmus+ support?

EU support can contribute to travel and individual support for subsistence. Rates are not one universal amount: they depend on factors such as the sending and receiving countries, distance and duration. For higher education staff, the sending institution is generally responsible for making payments for mobility between Programme countries.
