1. Is your country in the standard full-participation group?

EU Member States

Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden.

These countries can fully participate in Erasmus+ actions. Countries outside this group may still participate in certain actions, but the conditions depend on the specific action, project and institutional arrangements.

2. Quick eligibility check

Country: my sending organisation is in an EU Member State or a third country associated to Erasmus+ listed above.Organisation: I participate through a school, VET provider, adult-education organisation, higher-education institution or another organisation that is eligible for the relevant Erasmus+ action/project.Participant: I am linked to that organisation in a role covered by the relevant mobility action (for example staff, teacher, trainer, higher-education staff or an eligible learner/student).Institutional route: my sending organisation has or can use an Erasmus+ mobility project/accreditation and will select/approve me for the mobility.

Keep checking. If one or more statements above do not apply, eligibility cannot be assumed. Your institution may still have another Erasmus+ route, especially for cooperation with non-associated countries, so ask your Erasmus+ or international office.

3. What kind of participant are you?

Education staff

Teachers, trainers and other eligible staff may use Erasmus+ for courses/training, job shadowing or teaching/training assignments, depending on sector and project rules.

Higher education

Academic and non-academic staff can take part in eligible staff mobility. Students and recent graduates have separate study/traineeship routes and funding rules.

Private individual

For the staff and education routes covered here, you normally cannot apply for an Erasmus+ grant independently; the sending organisation applies/manages funding and selects participants.

4. Can you travel to a course in another country?

For the standard staff-mobility route, activities normally take place abroad and the eligible destination depends on the education sector and action. Courses and training in school, VET and adult education are designed around mobility between eligible organisations/countries; higher-education international mobility can also involve certain non-associated countries when the project rules allow it.

Do not use the country list alone as a booking approval. Your sending institution must confirm that your specific activity, receiving country/provider, dates and costs are eligible under its current Erasmus+ project. Visa and residence requirements may also apply.
